Zimbabwe: Multiple arrested as police clashes with protesters

Zimbabwean civilians alongside a prominent activist on Wednesday, have been detained and charged with public violence, demonstrated earlier this week.

 

Scores were beaten, during the heavy crackdown on dissent by security forces. And according to police, they have arrested over 200 people following the protests.

Three persons, including a police officer, lost their lives in the violent demonstrations on Monday. No immediate government comment on the series of arrests or allegations of violence by police and soldiers.

Wednesday was the third and final day of the stay-at-home protest called by unions in response to President Emmerson Mnangagwa increasing the price of fuel by more than 150 percent.

And also, protesters gathered outside Zimbabwean embassy in South Africa’s capital of Pretoria condemning detentions and demanding internet services and telephone connection to be brought back, after they were cut on Tuesday, so they could communicate with their relatives in Harare.
