California earthquake alerts tested and confirmed in Oakland

California Governor's Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) and the United States Geological Survey (USGS), have conducted a test for distributing earthquake alerts through the Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) system on March 27, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. in Downtown Oakland.




In the City of Oakland, people in Downtown Oakland California, on Wednesday received the first earthquake alert in the US on their mobile phones.

This was the first public test of the ShakeAlert system in the US - but other countries have had similar alert systems in place for years.

Public notification on how the goals can be achieved has already begun using public service announcements, as well as social media.

Cal OES urge the people in the community to give feedbacks.
