EFCC Storm Okorocha’s Abuja Residence Over Alleged N2.9bn Fraud

Sleuths of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have raged the residence of former Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha to arrest him over alleged corrupt practices of over N2.9bn.

According to reports, the anti-graft sleuths stormed the former governor Abuja’s residence on Tuesday, May 24, 2022, and barricaded the habitat without permitting anyone in or out.

It was culled that the EFCC operatives said they will only allow free entry and exit into the building until the APC presidential aspirant turned in himself. Also, the policemen attached to the residence were said to have been asked to withdraw from their duty by the EFCC.

Recall, that on January 31, 2022, the EFCC struck Okorocha, who presently represents Imo West senatorial district, with a fresh set of corruption charges to the tune of N2.9 billion.

The anti-graft agency had filed the charges at the Federal High Court in Abuja about the same time the lawmaker declared his ambition to run for the office of president in 2023.

He was accused of conniving with others, including a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and five companies to steal from public coffers.

But the former governor has since denied any transgression, stressing that it was not the first time he would be facing such action from the agency which he said was politically motivated.

Okorocha, nonetheless, advised the EFCC not to allow itself to be a piece of equipment for politicians but investigate allegations and get a real proof before taking action.
