Manchester City Star Benjamin Mendy Pleads Not Guilty To 7 Counts Of Rape And String Of Other Sex Offences

Manchester City footballer Benjamin Mendy has denied nine sexual offences against six women.

Mendy, 27, repeated: “Not guilty” as several charges were put to him on Monday at Chester Crown Court.

It marked the first time he had entered pleas.

Mendy denies seven counts of rape, one count of sexual assault and one count of attempted rape.

All the alleged offences are said to have taken place at his home address between October 2018 and August 2021.

Mendy is due to go on trial before a jury on July 25 alongside his co-defendant Louis Saha Matturie.

Matturie, 40, also entered pleas of not guilty. He denied eight counts of rape and four counts of sexual assault, relating to eight women.

His alleged offences are said to have taken place between July 2012 and August 2021.

Mendy has played for Manchester City since 2017. He was suspended by the club after being charged by police.

The club said in a statement in August 2021: “Manchester City can confirm that following his being charged by police today, Benjamin Mendy has been suspended pending an investigation.”

A trial is scheduled to take place at Chester Crown Court in July. Formal pleas were taken today during a managerial hearing before the Recorder of Chester Steven Everett ahead of the trial. Mr Mendy has played for Manchester City since 2017 when he joined from Monaco for a reported £52m. He was suspended by the club after being charged by police.

“The matter is subject to a legal process and the Club is, therefore, unable to make further comment until that process is complete.”
