Kano: Senator Kawu Sumaila Quits NNPP To Joins New Party

Representative Kano South Senatorial District, Suleiman Abdurrahman Kawu Sumaila, has dumped the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

In a statement signed by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Abbas Adam Abbas, on Wednesday, the move followed wide-ranging consultations with stakeholders, supporters, and constituents within the district.
The statement noted that the senator’s decision is guided by his commitment to local development and the well-being of his people.
"As he has consistently emphasised, all politics is local, and his primary focus has always been — and will continue to be — the welfare of his immediate constituency," the statement read.
"Senator Kawu Sumaila remains resolutely determined to advance the lives of his constituents, ensuring their needs are addressed and their future secured."
The senator is yet to announce his next political party as he claimed that discussion are still underway.
"His next political destination will be made public in due course, as discussions and consultations are still ongoing," the statement said.
The statement urged the public to be patient and expressed appreciation to his supporters.
"We urge the public and the media to remain patient and understanding, and we thank the people of Kano South for their unwavering support and trust during this important transition," it said.
However, there are reports that Sumaila is joining the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Senator Sumaila was one of four lawmakers previously suspended by the Hashimu Dungurawa-led faction of the NNPP in Kano for alleged anti-party activities. The others included Kabiru Alhassan Rurum (representing Rano/Kibiya Federal Constituency), Ali Madakin Gini (Dala Federal Constituency), and Sani Abdullahi Rogo (Rogo/Karaye Federal Constituency).
