Latest: Christian Chukwu, Iconic Super Eagles Coach D¡es At 74

Legendary Green Eagles captain and former Super Eagles coach, Christian Chukwu, has passed away at the age of 74.
The heartbreaking news was shared on social media by his former teammate and football icon, Dr. Olusegun Odegbami, who wrote:
“I just received the news that between 9:00 and 10:00 this morning, ‘Chairman’ Christian Chukwu, MFR, my bosom friend and teammate, one of the greatest football players in Nigeria’s football history, former captain and coach of Nigeria’s national football team, has passed on. Babuje, Emmanuel Okala, MON, gave me the sad news a few minutes ago! May ‘Onyim’ find peace with Our Creator in Heaven, and console his family.”

Fondly known as “Chairman”, Chukwu was a titan of Nigerian football. He captained the Green Eagles to their historic 1980 African Cup of Nations victory and later guided the Super Eagles as head coach, including a memorable run to the semi-finals of the 2004 Africa Cup of Nations.
In 2021, false rumors about his death circulated widely, prompting Chukwu to personally debunk them during his 70th birthday celebration.
As of now, the cause of his passing has not been disclosed.
